About Us

Communal Gifts was born from a desire to strengthen connections with each other and the natural world around us.

We are a woman-owned brand based in Southern California, founded in 2024 with the belief that sustainability and beautiful design belong together. Each wrap is thoughtfully handcrafted from rescued fabrics, giving new life to high-quality textiles while helping reduce waste.

Meet the Founder

Emily's career in green building design and sustainable materials has always been about creating healthier places and a healthier planet. Through her work, she helps communities understand the ingredients, labor practices, and environmental impacts behind the materials we use and the buildings we occupy, empowering others to make more informed decisions about construction, design, and building operations.

That same passion for sustainability inspired Communal Gifts. Emily wanted to bring the principles she advocates in her professional life into a more personal, joyful part of everyday life: gift-giving.

The spark for Communal Gifts came when she discovered furoshiki, the Japanese tradition of reusable gift wrapping. Inspired by its beauty and practicality, she saw an opportunity to reimagine gift wrap as something designed to be treasured and reused rather than discarded. By hand-sewing wraps from rescued designer fabrics, Emily found a way to blend thoughtful design with sustainability, creating pieces that honor the planet while celebrating life's moments.

Her hope is that every wrap inspires something far beyond a single gift exchange, encouraging meaningful traditions, thoughtful conversations, and small choices that create lasting impact.
